Red Fish Blue Fish, Victoria, BC

Well, since we're back in Victoria and had room for late lunch, we strolled down to the wharf and hunted down Red Fish Blue Fish (featured on Food Network's Eat St a while back and a local fav), and well, good things are worth revisiting!!  Click here for our previous post!
We parked at the parking lot on the harbor front, then veered off to the left to the cargo box converted into an amazing kitchen nestled behind a building at the base of the hill facing the harbor.  It seems to have a never ending line up of hungry folks!!

the FOOD
We didn't order as much as we would have liked as we were pretty stuffed after high tea at the Fairmont Empress, but we made room none the less.  My boyfriend went with an order of Fish and Chips.  Light crunchy batter encased a silky perfectly cooked moist fish inside.  Served with excellent inhouse made tartar sauce and wicked coleslaw, this was yummmy!  The inhouse made tartar sauce beat out the malt vinegar syrup this time as the malt vinegar syrup fell short, as it wasn't well.. reduced long enough so we were basically just dunking our fries into plan malt vinegar.

The Cod dog, invented because of customer's requests for hotdogs...  super hot, crispy battered dreamy silky cod was super moist and topped with pickles, dilled dijonaisse and house made tartar sauce all served on a soft fresh Irene's Bakery's hot hog roll.   We alo got it topped with Tuna belly bacon - which was a bit of a disappointment as the tuna belly, normally rich and fatty was rendered quite dry and a bit overcooked.  If they merely propane torched it gently or gentle sear, it would have been fantastic.  Still, the cod dog was a crunchy, crisp, soft, savory, tangy NOM!

The coleslaw it came was much improved since our last visit... tangy, crisp, cool and refreshing... I had to fight with my boyfriend for it as we made it disappear long befor the cod dog was finished!

Since it was only the 2 of us, we ordered a side of Grilled Fanny Bay Oysters. 6 fresh small oysters, and grill them to a moist juicy tender tasty, lemon pickled onions, green onions and a side of the incredible coleslaw. Mmmmmmm!!!

the VERDICT
Overall, this is not your ordinary fish and chips joint... and its well worth the searching and waiting for their awesome fish and chips and Cod Dogs... and don't let the birds eyeing your food disconcert you.  They know what's good!
