We went out a looking for a late night snack to satisfy salty, savory and generally "bad" food craving, we headed to Tubby Dog for a fix. Hugely popular with the late night, music crowd and anyone who loves hot dogs since it opened a few years back. Jon Truch elevates a simple hot dot stand with his unique and electic spin on hot dog toppings, serving day and night beers, twinkies, fried goodies and DJ nights to go with the kick ass hot dogs. They're not fussy nor gourmet, they're just down to earth yummy! Cash only.
We just missed the sit down hours, so we joined the long queue along with other like minded hungry folks, we debated which dog(s) we would get that night off their menu posted handily on the door:
Haven't worked up the courage to try the tripple heart bypass.. I mean Shem's Ultimate Gripper dog with a deep fried bacon wrapped hot dog, topped with ham, bacon, homemade chili, cheese, mustard, bacon, hot peppers, diced sweet onions, and crowned with a fried egg.. or 2 if you like. Basically everything is on the hot dog but the kitchen sink lol! Here's a glimpse into where the magic happens
I've always had the Sumo Dog (juicy 1/3lb hot dog topped with a wasabi'ed Japanese mayo, spicy pickled ginger, toasted sesame seeds and toasted nori strips) and will always make room for the decadently tasty but messy signature Tubby Dog drowned in homemade chili, bacon, ooey gooey melted cheese sauce, diced sweet onions and mustard... NOM!!
Was really tempted to share a PBJ, a hot dog slathered with peanut butter, jelly and topped with Captain Crunch Cereal, but tonight, gonna switch it up with the A-Bomb!
How can you go wrong with loads of cheese, bacon, mayo, mustard and a heaping pile of crushed ketchup chips? Mmmmm!
the VERDICT
Go get yourself one or two of these uniquely topped delicious hot dogs if you haven't yet. And I'm going to hit up the gym tomorrow.
