After a late flight into Maui, dumped off everything at our penthouse condo (we're living it up a little.. after all, we're on vacation!), and drove to scenic old town Lahaina. Now, as Maui is a laid back vacation spot, you reaaaaally have to look and ask around if you want to eat at a half decent place once the sun goes down as most kitchens close at 9pm. Locales directed us to a restaurant that supposedly opened till midnight, but as we strolled by Cheeseburger in Paradise, we just caught last calls for food, so we zipped into an eclectically decorated restaurant/bar. We headed upstairs to find a seat open air dining area, with a live guy singing his heart out and strumming his guitar. and nabbed a seat next to the ocean.
the DRINKS
We were a bit pooped, so we stuck to non-alcoholic drinks tonight, rather than start Zzzz at the table with a myriad of "happy" drinks they had on their drink menu. My boyfriend went with a refreshing and aromatic fresh guava juice
While I went with a mango smoothie. Lots of fresh mango with a heavy hit of yogurt tartness. The whipped topping was a bit odd, but nice as a garnish.
the BURGERS
I went with a Guacamole cheeseburger, mainly cuz I love guacamole. The guacamole is made fresh in house everyday, and is a bit runnier than I expected and needed a bit more acidity. Its still tasty a top of their 100% Braveheart Black Angus Beef thick and juicy moist patty. The toppings also included melted Colby jack cheese adding in a bit of sharpness, shredded lettuce, tomatos, Maui onion slices, mayo, mustard, all in a soft sesame seed bun. The yam fries reminded me of McCain's but the slice of fresh pineapple was nice.
My boyfriend went with a Royal Ali'i Cheeseburger. This cheeseburger was also made with a 100% Braveheart Black Angus Beef and topped with Colby jack cheese.. actually all their burgers are. The Royal Ali'i also has a fried egg - nice and runny, a few slices of crispy bacon, shredded lettuce, tomato slice, mayo, mustard, and Maui sweet onion slices. He went with a side of side of greasy but tasty onion rings
Totally hit. the. spot. Mmmmmmm!
the VERDICT
Overall, a great place to have a tasty cheeseburger with friendly service, and sip on a drink in Hawaiian paradise.
