First things first... breakfast!! We headed to Eggs 'n Things and kept our fingers crossed for a short line up... probably one of the few places on the island that has a line up at 6am! We lucked out and got a decent parking spot right across the street from their infamous signage:
After signing in for a table, grabbing a notification buzzer, menus to peruse, we settled down for a 30min wait for tables to open up upstairs with some freshly brewed hot Kona coffee (no pic), some fresh and aromatic guava juice as well as a limited daily quantity of cold brew dripped iced coffee (sold out at 10am) that takes a full night to "brew":
The cold dripped Kona coffee packed a sucker punch of caffeinated hello! Which I promptly toned down a bit with some sugar and cream, resulting in something very similar to a Vietnamese iced coffee:
the FOOD
We zoomed in after a pleasant wait as the sun started to warm things up outside. The boys each went for the locale's fav - the Loco Moco - a gargantuan breakfast of rice, seasoned hamburger, 2 eggs done your way (sunny side up runny!), and doused with plenty of mushroom gravy. If you're in the mood for an epic loco moco, you can have the dinner version which is loaded up with bacon and sauteed mushrooms and an extra egg I think.

Paaaaancakes!! What's a decent breakfast without a mound of fluffy pancake happiness? These macadamia nut pancakes were light, soft, fluffy and covered with a good sprinkle of icing sugar, a big ball of butter and lots of toasted macadamia nuts. Order pancakes as a side if you can't finish 5 of these large pancakes... Kimchee did her best, but wasn't able to finish despite sharing them out! And if you want it more indulgent, you can get a 6inch high mountain of whipped cream on top if you like - just ask!
Three types of syrups to drown your breakfast sausage, or just breakfast in - regular breakfast syrup, coconut, and pineapple syrup!
Can you guess which syrup: normal, coconut or pineapple was our fav? |
For myself, I shared a Macadamia nut waffle. Crisp on the outside and fluffy soft on the inside, it was a bit on the thin side (but I told myself its not Belgium waffle), it too was dressed in a sprinkle of icing sugar, a pingpong ball sized bit of butter, and a generous pile of toasted macadamia nuts.
.. which I promptly dressed up with, you guessed it! Pineapple syrup!!! Nom!!
Tummies full of breakfast and brains topped up with caffeine, we headed up to the Dole Plantation for their pineapple whip.. well, the Dole Plantation Grill to be correct :P While waiting in line, we spotted a cute little pineapple souvenir:
It holds the Pineapple shake,so how could I resist? We got a shake, which turned out to be lots of fresh pineapple juice, and a generous twist of pineapple whip floated in the pineapple container... the luscious whip was dispensed out of this little guy:
I know what I want in my Xmas stocking... :D |
As well as a couple of Pineapple whip with fresh fruit. Turns out if you dont' ask for the fruit, you don't get any.. guess the caffeine didn't kick in yet. GET the FRUIT. So much tastier!!
Dole pineapple whip Kimchee took a bite of... |
People started digging in too fast, so I just took a pic of my own creamy smooth and yummy pineapple whip with super ripe and sweet fresh pineapple chunks, and the pineapple shake beside
Mmmm.. and the pineapple whip keeping my pineapple juice nice and cool. Its almost hard to believe the pineapple whip is nothing but sweet ripe gold pineapple juice frozen and whipped into this awesome summer time, heck, anytime treat!
We took a digestion break and rode the Pineapple Express train for a educational tour around the plantation grounds, and obligatory tourist happy pics. Full day of epic food and tasty eats to be continued here...*slurp!*
