During a recent vacation, we stopped by Aberdeen mall in Richmond, BC and we made a few stops.. not to shop, but to eat, drink and snack on a few tasty and inexpensive local favorites.
Wo Fung Desserts
Rating 9.5/10. Now, we didn't come here to eat their desserts, despite them being a dessert house. We came for the wings!!! Their "wind and sand" wings or "foong sah" wings are amazing. They're super crisp and savory on the outside as they're seasoned with a chinese fermented tofu paste which gives it a complex salty and savory profile before they're fried to a crispy golden perfection. Juicy, tender, savory and moist wowza!! Nommy nom nom! Its impossible to stop at just one!
Leung Kee
Rating 9/10. Second stop was at Leung Kee for some drinks. Don't get confused and go to the wrong place - this is the one with an "E" at Aberdeen Centre. There's also another drink place called Lung Kee (without the E).. the good drink place is the one with the E! We stop by for a cold lemon tea with honey or "Dong Ling Cha"- a Hong Hong favourite to cool off (on the left), as well as a Hong Kong style milk tea or "Gong sick lai cha" (the creamy looking one on the right). For $2 each, these drinks are a steal as the ice tea is intensely lemony and refreshing without being too tart as there is a generous dallop of honey added to sweeten this tea. The HK style milk tea is flavorful, aromatic with the strongly brewed tea used to make it, rich, creamy and so tasty, I wish I could take the drink shop with me back home. Mmmmmm... *slurp!*
Mei Jan Hong Singapore Beef and Pork Jerky
Rating 6/10. Now, don't get me wrong, I love salty savory smoked jerky, but I added sweet cured jerky to my list of snacks a few years back when I was introduced to the sweet version. Its not sugar cured, but the meat is marinated in a slightly sweet marinade so when its BBQ'ed or smoked, you get a wonderful balance of salty savory and sweet. Mei Jan Hong used to be a favourite place I'd hit up for their beef and pork jerky, though recently, they have changed up their marinade/sauce as it now includes a big hit of ginger. Its not quite as good as they used to be, but still a good place to hit up for a few strips of salty-sweet smokey jerky BBQ'ed up in front of you.
So if you're in the area or shopping and picking up a few items at Aberdeen Centre, make sure you stop by to eat some amazingly tasty wings at Wo Fung Desserts, gnaw on some moist salty-sweet strips of Singapore style BBQ pork, beef or chicken jerky, and wash it all down with a tall cool drink at Leung Kee.... remember, get it right as its the place with an "E"! :) Also, for Beard Papa fans, they have the very first one that opened in Canada at Aberdeen Centre - soooo tasty, and way better than then franchise location in Edmonton and even the one in Shanghai!

Either you completely overlooked it or you weren't enticed by it but... No Frappe Blisse? I have friends from Edmonton who go to Aberdeen just for that! (Guess during winter there isn't enough snow in Edmonton, hahaha!)
A little bit of from both cups? After having not one, but coming back later for a 2nd drink, didn't have too much room left LOL! I'm a total sucker for the HK style milk tea.. love it when its done right! Harder to find still is a good cup of the "see-mut lai cha" - the HK style milk team made by straining thru a silk nylon. What's the Frappe Blisse made with (coffee or espresso)?
My mistake, it is Frappe Bliss (without a trailing "e"). It is a variation of shaved ice but, because they are shaved so thin, you don't really "feel" the icy consistency of it. Then you add toppings of your choice. Check my fellow blogger Mijune post of this place:

Thank you! We're not experts at taking macro pics :P Go try the wings... they taste amazing!! :D
